  • A sub-$350 netbook has replaced a $2,000+ laptop

I bought this netbook in September after my Sony Vaio got fried at a conference (someone 'helped' me by putting it away without turning it off). Ordered it from Amazon on my PDA, which was pretty cool. Originally, I got it just to be a stopgap, until I got a permanent laptop replacement. But, I have to tell you, this thing is really powerful. It runs the entire Office 2007 Pro suite smoothly, and I am even running Quickbooks Pro on it (which brought my 5 year old desktop to its knees, when I tried running it on that machine). As it stands now, I am running my 5-person consulting business entirely from this netbook. That just blows my mind. A sub-$350 netbook has replaced a $2,000+ laptop. It is running XP and I bumped it to 2 gig RAM (which was a piece of cake to do), and I am sure that helps. But, I can run multiple Word, Excel and Adobe files, along with multiple Firefox windows, and the machine just works. It even works with my Acecad digital notepad (also purchased from Amazon). AND, when I unplug, I get 7+ hours from a charge. Reliably. With WiFi and Bluetooth on. Gotta love it. So far, no problems with the power strip as reported by others. And, it weighs TWO POUNDS.

    Issues:

Weak video (On-line videos and Skype occasionally stutter), but that's to be expected and multimedia was not why I bought it. I don't plan to watch any movies on it.

It CAN bog down, if I try to run too many things, especially when running QBP. But, on a day-to-day basis, it runs just fine.

Little quirks, like a several second lag, when creating a new folder, reconnecting monitor always defaults to max resolution, and it doesn't want to link up with my Verizon PDA for broadband. But, they are few and far between, and there are probably fixes to most of the these that I just haven't researched.

No docking station. It is a bit of a pain to unplug and replug power, monitor, LAN, wireless mouse/keyboard, hard drive back-up and PDA cable, but not the end of the world.

  • If you don't want windows 7 Netbook - ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X is best choice

Low Price ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life

Great Netbook for the price. I prefer Windows XP operating system over Windows Vista or Windows 7 and I like the built-in webcam for video conferencing and the onboard wireless connection capability. asus eee pc 1005ha pu1x bk ergonomic keyboard is also comfortable and adequte big. As parents we are already experiencing pressure because the mini is a hot item for the Holidays with most teenagers and college students. Our Netbook has operated flawlessly so far and the 10 hour battery is a real plus. The trick is to fully charge and then fully discharge this battery several times before you start using it in the regular mode. I think that all of these units including competitors use the same Intel Atom processor. I also bought the optical drive and extra ram. It enhances performance, but is not absolutely necessary because this unit is a full featured machine. It gets you through a lecture, a meeting or even a long flight without the need to recharge. That's a real plus for the members of our family

  • How about new netbook , Read Review Now

Spent most of the summer toying with the idea to buy a netbook, and finally pulled the trigger a month ago. I wanted something that I could use for my personal studies and research and that was less bulky than my 15" Dell Laptop that I use for work. I purchased the ASUS 1005HA with the 10.5 hour battery life. I have been extremely pleased. It worked right out of the box and I was using it within minutes. I tug it around for all my personal stuff and it is light, easy to carry (CaseLogic Bag) and I really do get 10 hours plus use of the battery. My biggest concern was how I would handle a smaller keyboard. For regular typing, the keyboard has worked well. Navigating with the arrow keys and the Fn function key took some time to get used to. I'm 50+ years old, so the screen size was also a concern, but it is adequate for the type of things I use it for. I have had a freeze up twice where the mouse and keyboard stop responding. Just keeping things real, but I love my ASUS!!

  • I used my 53rd birthday and the approaching Christmas holiday to gift myself a netbook

I used my 53rd birthday and the approaching Christmas holiday to gift myself a netbook, and after much research, it was the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X 10.1-Inch Netbook that I chose. Buying this netbook through Amazon - with its fabulous pricing, reliable shipping, super customer service, and community of intelligent verified reviewers was a no-brainer. Even still, I was concerned about making this purchase after reading so many complaints about power adapter problems. Turns out I needn't have worried my middle-aged head: Amazon and Asus are now shipping out this model with a proven and new power adapter - not the model that was causing all of those complaints. Bottom line: nothing to fear here.

As for the performance of this little computer, I've gotta tell ya: it beats out my old reliable Toshiba laptop that set me back more than $800 two years ago.

The netbook hooked up to the family's wireless in seconds. At the office, it quickly found an Optimum Online "free" hotspot that wasn't so much as detectable on my colleague's netbooks. And the battery life? Ridiculously long, a fact that makes me smile with glee. I've been using this netbook on and off for two days on the same charge. Now into my 8th hour of wireless/Itunes/wordprocessing/Internet activity, it's still going strong. PS: A co-worker gets about 2.5 hours on his brand-new HP. Seriously, I felt extravagant and almost guilty when he noted the 10 hour battery life on my Asus.

Though I did upgrade to 2GB RAM (and it was an absolute cinch to do!), I could have left well enough alone at 1GB. Fact is, the machine works beautifully straight out of the box. Having the extra RAM simply means that I can run tons of programs simultaneously. Given that I'd been running Open Office and Itunes, and had multiple browser windows open with no problem at 1GB, I don't think anyone needs to worry about rushing off to plug in extra RAM right away. This netbook is truly fantabulous as delivered. I'm figuring that with the 2GB now installed, it might well do my ironing.

What else? Well, I'm a touch typist and very particular about my keyboard. In researching this purchase, I visited Best Buy, Staples, Office Max and anywhere else I could plant my hands on the competition's offerings. Here's the deal: I LIKE this keyboard A LOT. It boasts nice large keys, is fast, responsive and comfortable. The only comparable keyboards I found were those on much larger laptops.

The screen? It's glossy, yes...and probably like you, I'd read a number of complaints about glare, but here's the deal: the screen is STUNNING, and if you've got a bright light shining down on it, you've got a choice: you can either move the screen to eliminate the glare, or move the lamp. I mean come on...it's a netbook, for crying out loud. It's not like it's such an inconvenience to shift yourself over a few inches to alleviate glare. I'd far rather have this beautifully crisp screen and make the occasional adjustment for glare, than deal with a matte screen 24/7.

One of the other complaints I'd come across is how for some, the screen doesn't tilt back far enough. Know what? It tilts plenty far. Don't kid yourself. Sure, if you're intent on standing up and towering over the netbook, as it sits some several feet below your typing hands, well then...yeah, you'd probably want the screen to tilt far enough back to lay flat. But who does this? And if you can't wait to twist yourself into some contortion in bed where you need the screen to go back further than reasonable, you can always invest in one of those $20 lap desks - you know, the kind with the beanbag bottom, so that you can shift the desk into whatever ridiculous position will suit your fancy. Seriously, there's no tilt problem for anyone other than the obsessively compulsive.

As for the operating system, I happen to like Microsoft XP, and since I wasn't into lining Mr. Gates' pockets for a whittled down "Starter version" of yet another O.S. adventure, I passed jumping on the Windows7 bandwagon. Yeah, I know...I could have gotten more hard drive space...and I could have gotten a matte screen, but neither of those "features" impressed me. If down the road, Windows7 turns out to be the best thing since sliced bread, I'll upgrade my operating system to the full program, with confidence that most of the bugs have been worked out by that time.

I guess what I'm getting at is this: If you happen to be looking for the best netbook out there, look no further.

  • Long Life Battery Netbook - up tp 10 hrs

I unplugged the adapter, and the next time I plugged it in, it stopped working. Luckily Amazon is good about replacing this. However I might not get it in time due to their mishap on putting one day shipping instead of Saturday shipping. And when I talked to another rep, I think by then it was too late to ship for Saturday delivery. Will post an update later. See Details of Asus Eee pc 1005ha-pu1x-bk Now

  • New Netbook for You . See Bestseller Netbook Review Now

Th ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU is a Nice little laptop overall. Two problems I see, 1. The power supply had to be replaced already and Ive seen this in many other reviews also. You need to watch the extended use of it and make sure it does not get to hot. I went as far as putting a small USB powered fan on it to help keep it cool. Amazon did a wonderful job in getting it replaced for me and very quickly I might add. 2. I dont really care much for the touch pad, only because it has little bumps on it and after a little while of use, it feels like its rubbing the tip of your finger raw. • Do you Looking For Netbook : Try ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK

This is a bestlittle netbook... however, I have had the same power supply issues as everyone else. I had hope that ASUS had worked out this issue when I bought the netbook... but no luck. The power supply died in less than 4 weeks. IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM, CALL ASUS AT 1-888-678-3688. This number is hard to find, and their online customer support is worthless. You should have no problems getting a replacement power supply if you call this number. See Specifition and detail at Asus Eee Pc 1005ha-pu1x Details
